MAS 90 and MAS 200, by Sage Software, Inc. (formerly Best Software, Inc.), offer accounting, financial reporting, distribution, manufacturing, and e-business management. MAS provides a number of reports as well as Crystal Reports for custom reporting. However, we have found that this is not enough flexibility for some of our clients. Our clients want to extract the data from across MAS components and put it directly into spreadsheets. Once in spreadsheets, the data can be manipulated in any number of ways to facilitate quicker and more useful analysis.

PCG writes custom software to access the underlying MAS database directly, extract the desired data, and provide custom reporting in a spreadsheet format that is more flexible than that offered with the off-the-shelf product. Where necessary, we also provide MS Excel macros to further format the data in a spreadsheet.

Our clients have found that our custom reporting saves them time and money. They spend less time gathering and formatting data, and more time analyzing it. They are able to make business decisions more quickly and with more confidence.

Some examples: Situation - Bill Of Materials Analysis for Purchasing
The client has a Bill of Materials (BOM) for a complex product that is 6 levels deep and has over 1,000 parts and assemblies.
Problem They want to purchase parts for manufacture quickly and accurately.
PCG Solution
We provide a simple application. The client specifies the BOM number. Our application:

  • Analyzes the BOM to determines how many of each part is required across the entire BOM,
  • Accesses the amount in inventory, on order and on back order,
  • Determines how many of each part need to be ordered,
  • Provides all of the vendor information (e.g., name, address, vendor part number, lead time) needed to efficiently order the necessary parts.
All of this information is provided in a single report.

Situation - Build Against Inventory
The client has an order for a very complex product that is largely manufactured on-site.
Problem
Given the inventory on hand, what assemblies and subassemblies can be built now. What is the status of parts that are not in inventory (e.g., on order, on backorder)?
PCG Solution The client specifies the BOM number and quantity that they want to build. Our application analyzes the BOM and allocates available inventory against the BOM to show which subassemblies can be built now and which are awaiting parts. The quantities on order and backorder are also displayed.

Situation - Accounting Forecasts Cash Flow Weekly
Problem Accounting requires aging of accounts receivable and accounts payable in order to properly project cash flow.
PCG Solution
We have provided several reports that:

  • Gathers accounts receivable and accounts payable data,
  • Puts them in "aging buckets",
  • Highlights those that are past due.
These reports are used to project cash flow on a weekly basis. Our automation of the process has saved the accounting department approximately 3 hours / week capturing and formatting the information. And, of course, the information is likely to be more accurate since data capture and manipulation by hand is both tedious and error prone. The accountant's job satisfaction has increased with the automation of the tedious portion of the process.

Using MS Access and Excel we can provide custom reporting with data gathered from across MAS components. Once the data is in Excel, you can interact with it. Please contact us and let us know what reports we can provide for you.
